About me
I have loved fabrics, threads, and other textile media since I was a child and first learned to make clothes for my Barbie doll. I started making my own clothes when I was a teenager, and, over the years, have created outfits for my daughter, recovered furniture, made curtains, pillows, toys, and just about anything else I could fashion on a sewing machine.
A long and rewarding career in public service left little time for creativity, but I am now able to pursue my passion in textile arts. I started with utilitarian quilts made from other people’s patterns, but after a few of these I vowed to only make my own designs. This, then led, to the art quilts I’m working today.
My current series interprets images of the cacti, succulents and aloes that are ubiquitous in the Southern California landscape where I live. These woody, fibrous species thrive on very little water, grow in an endless variety of shapes and colors, and produce gorgeous blossoms, usually for only a day or two in the spring. My work attempts to capture the beautifully architectural structure of their leaves and branches, and the shading those structures create in the California sun. I have many more ideas in my head and look forward to sharing the pieces I have yet to create in the near future.
